1959 - HUME WEIR CIRCUIT.
Hume Weir Motor racing circuit opened on the 1st of November 1959 as an unsealed .8mile track, The track was built in a rock quarry that had been created by the construction of the Hume Weir, In 1960 the dirt circuit was sealed and increased to a length of 1mile.
The first meeting was held on the 2nd of November 1959, Sir Jack Brabham is recorded as setting a lap record around the circuit in 1962, At one point in time Bob Jane was a 50% partener in the ownership of the venue.
The track closed on the 27th of March 1977, but parts of the complex were still used as part of the course for the Alpine Rally right through until the late 1980's, Since then the Weir has had structural problems that could have washed away all before it down stream had it broken its wall, Earth was pushed up from the track and surrounds to strengthen the dam wall.
