1937 - SYDNEY SPORTSGROUND SPEEDWAY. England v Australia 1st Official Solo Test Match. 11th December 1937.Lion's defeat Kangaroo'sEngland have narrowly defeated Australia, 28 to 26 points in front of 30,000 spectators tonight here at the Sportsground.
This would be the first of a five test series for the 1937 / 1938 season.
For the English team the final points score would read, Les Wotton 6, Joe Abbott 6, Jack Parker 5, Bill Kitchen 5, Jack Ormstrom 4 and Arthur Atkinson 2.
The Australian's after there bad start, Bluey Wilkinson 9 points, Clem Mitchell 8, Lionel Van Praag 6, Charlie Spinks 2, Bill Rogers 1, Ron Johnson 0 and Wally Little 0 also.

Ken Brown - Has reported that Les Dillon from New South Wales was the first recorded fatality in a Midget within Australia, on that day the 22nd of May 1938.

E N G L A N DOur speedway motorcycle fans have been treated to a fantastic night of racing tonight when the visiting English team took on our Australian team in the second test of five, all to be held here at the Sportsground.
It was a great result for our Australian boys when they won this test 32 points to 22 points.
The Following third test will be held here at the Sportsgound next Saturday night, the 28th of January 1939.

A u s t r a l i a20,000 motorcycle speedway fans have packed into the Sportsground tonight to take in some thrilling bike racing with some of the best riders in the world.
Tonight was round three of the five test series that is run annually with England taking on Australia.
It was a win for England tonight 31 points to 23, giving them a two/one lead over the Australian team with two more test's to go.
The England team points break down was. Alec Statham 8, Jack Parker [Captain] 6, Geoff Pymar 6, Norman Parker 5, Arthur Atkinson 4, Wally Lloyd 2, Bob Harrison [Reserve] no rides.
