The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria was formed in Melbourne in 1903 because of the ever increasing number of motor cars on the roads, The club was initially formed as a social club to provide facilities and organise rallies for its members.

1903 - ASPENDALE PARK RACECOURSE
The first competition event that the RACV held was at Aspendale Racecourse on Port Phillip Bay.

The second event organised was a rally that started at Marysville and travelled through to the Great Dividing Range.
