1909 - NEW ORLEANS FAIRGROUND
New Orleans Fairground began its motor racing back in 1909 with a three day AAA Sanctioned event during there Mardi Gras cellerbrations.
The racing was well accepted by the large crowds on the big one mile dirt track, Ralph De Palma went on to win the 1st and 3rd days, It is unknown at this point who won day two, Other races were held during the carnival, one which saw a ladie driver in Joan Cuneo come second in a sprint race.
Further event would be added throughout the year, over the years up until 1921 when the fairground board decided to drop motor racing and concentrate on horse racing.
