1996 - ALBERT PARK CIRCUITIn 1996 Victoria had sniped the Australian Grand Prix rights of South Australia and brought the Australian round of the race to a very much re-vamped Albert Park circuit in the centre of Melbourne.
1996 - ALBERT PARK CIRCUIT IS REBORNThe layout used during the 1950's was retained but with some major alterations and the direction of racing reversed.
The old start finish line and pit area was unsuitable, so a new 1/2 mile long diversion was was added just for the new pit area, This allowed for a safer car entry and exit into and out of the pits with today's high speed's, a problem they didn't have in the 1950's.
