Allan Streader recalls: Westmead Speedway didn't run Compact Speedcars, by this time I was well enough known to be invited to compete in the micro midgets on one race day, a car owned by Ray Platt was supplied to me with an engine on loan from Stan Bayliss. The field included Wally Kermond, Ian Saville, along with Platt and Bayliss, I started from the rear and after reaching the back straight for the first time I found myself in front and pulling away, The problem was the car had the wrong gearing and the engine was over reving so I had to back off and eventually finished last, The owner came over to me in the pits and asked why did I did back off, I explained the problem with the car, the owner replied your not running a JAP engine now, this is a Manx Norton engine and it revs higher than a JAP, next race don't back off, stay on it, so I did anyway the engine blew up, I was never invited back.
