1899 - NEWCASTLE SHOW
In 1899 a group of prominent businessmen including the Mayor of Newcastle William Cann got together with the idea of forming a show committee.
Doctor Joseph Beeston was appointed President of the Newcastle and District Agricultural, Horticultural and Industrial Association.
The first Newcastle Regional Show was held on the 17th of May 1902, continuing through to 1916 when the showground was required as a military camp for the 1st World War.

By 1919 the showground was once again closed for a period because of a influenza epidemic that was sweeping the world.
In 1941 the showground once again became a Military camp this time for the 2nd World War, no shows were held until 1945.
From those early years through until now the showground has prospered into a venue that covers many types of displays and events.
