7th November 1979 - Three competitors had their career's cut short by this crash at the Sydney Showground on the 7th of November 1979. Bill Dudenhoeffer (left) suffered a permanent back injury and his rider Warren Sullivan retired as a result. Doug Robson (right) then in the twilight of his illustrious career, limped away with the New South Wales crown but never raced again. Photographer: Bill Meyers.

1979 - SYDNEY SHOWGROUND SPEEDWAY AUSTRALIA v USA SPRINTCAR TEST MATCH 15th December 1979This was the big time for Sydney Sprintcar racing with the best from the USA - Larry Burton, Steve Kinser, Doug Wolfgang and Jimmy Sills for the USA.
The Australian team consisted of the local hot shot Gary Rush, Alf Barbagallo from Western Australia, Bob Kelly and Bob Blacklaw.
