The Savannah Dragway opened in 1968 as a 1/4-mile strip, However safety concerns and rising insurance costs caused it to convert to the smaller 1/8-mile distance in the mid 1980's. The track was forced to close down at the end of 2005 because of a neighbour lodging multipul noise complaints, also the lease had expired.
