1929 - MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY
Monica Park Speedway opened as a speedway back in November of 1929, At the time the English Park speedway was also in operation, So the story goes that the Monica Park promoters bought out Christchurch Speedways Limited and shut down English Park.
The promoters brought in many top overseas riders to boost the skills of the locals, Charlie Blacklock, Percy Lunn and Norm Gray featured amoungest the local riders.

1934 - MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY
No racing events were held in 1934 and further meetings were restricted in the following years because of the depression.

1935 - CHARLIE BLACKLOCK
Charlie Blacklock the first New Zealand rider to venture to England, sadly lost his life in a crash while racing in 1935.

1936 - MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY
Midget Car racing was introduced in 1936 to Christchurch by American stunt man Putt Mossman, By 1937 a gathering of American, Australian and New Zealand midget drivers raced in a three meeting series, thrilling the crowds, One of these drivers was, USA Indy car driver Duane Carter.

Monica Park Speedway would close in 1938.
