1960's - CALDER PARK DIRT TRACK
Calder Park Raceway was founded in the farming community of Diggers Rest and began life as a Dirt Track carved into a paddock by a group of Motoring enthusiasts who wanted a place to race their family cars.
Two families that were involved in the build were the the Pascoe family, as well as the Hawthorne family who owned the land.
Patrick Hawthorne who at the time owned a petrol station in Clayton was approached by one of his clients, who suggested they should form a club and build a Dirt Race Track on his property, and so it was the track was built.
This track was used up until the new Sealed Circuit was built right next door. The new circuit opened on the 14th of January 1962.

Robert Withington recalls: I have no idea who took these photos but i'm pretty sure the you boy on the right is me, The would have been taken at calder after the big rollover aka PK 752 number plate being up side down, Norm even took me for a short ride in the pits one day in this car, one of the highlights of my life, I was always around as my dad worked as an official in those days.
