1924 - THORNTON SPEEDWAY
In 1924 motor racing events in the form of motorcycle racing began on the big 1/2 mile Thornton horse racing track.
These meetings were few and far between and only short lived, It has been reported that the Chicago Colored Race Drivers Association ran these events, Sadly the track earned a reputation as being soft and dangerous to race on, this led to the tracks closure in 1926.
