Lost Dirt Tracks facebook feature
Opened originally as a 1/2 mile oval dirt track in 1950, It only took until the next season for NASCAR to sanction their major series there. The first winner at the track was Fonty Flock.
From this point on the track would receive at least one NASCAR race each year and the fans would pack out the stands.
During the 1957 season the track was paved, From this point on they were granted a minimum of two NASCAR events per year. All the superstars would race and have a win, From the Petty's to Fireball Roberts, Junior Johnson, Ned Jarrett and many more.
Despite its popularity and its importance to the NASCAR schedule and other events, more complaints were coming from residential neighbours. Eventually the residents won and the track was forced to close.
