1927 - LAKE HAWTHORN SPEEDWAY
Lake Hawthorn Speedway was instigated by the Mildura Motorcycle Club, early newspaper reports indidate that the track may have opened in 1927. The exact location of the track has not been confirmed as yet, but it may be the big oval dirt track that is visable in the image below and on some of the early Google earth images.

L a k e H a w t h o r n speed meeting
Mildura. Victoria: if weather conditions are favorable the Mildura Motorcycle Club will conduct its speed meeting at Lake Hawthorn tomorrow afternoon. Persons interested in Motorcycle track racing should not miss this opportunity of seeing the Mildura speed demons in action. The recent rains have had the effect of conslidating the track, and some fast times should be recorded. Improvements to ensure greater safety have been carried out at the speedway. The program drawn up and published will be adhered to. Great attension was givern to handicap events drawn up by, Messrs M O Williams, B Ankertell and H Soutter. The whole program should be packed with thrills, In addition to the handicap events, there will be the Belt-Driving Championship, Sensational Sidecar contests and the flying 1/4 mile. The first event is scheduled fo be at two oclock. After the meeting a dance will be held at the Lake Hall.
