1972 - AUSTRALIAN SPRINTCAR CHAMPIONSHIP. 29th 30th January 19721972 was a sensational result for Graeme McCubbin, this must have capped off a wonderfull life in speedway for the champion, as he announced his retirement at the presentation.
Bill Wigzell led the twenty one car field away into the first turn of the fifty lap feature, followed by Jim Winterbottom, Wigzell lost the lead about four laps in to Winterbottom and Agars.
By lap 12 Agars had passed Winterbotton who had steering problems, at this stage cars were already dropping out, Doug Phillips was out on lap one with a tyre issue, Phil Herreen would get together with Garry Wise sending Wise into the wall, Allan Jones was out on lap nine with crash damage, Dick Britton was well off the pace and was lapped by the leaders prior to the half race distance, About half race distance the order was Agars, Winterbottom, Tunks, Herreen, Fisher, Moncrieff, Wigzell.
|
Wigzell had problems his rear tyre was catching on fire under acceleration but he pressed on, Bert Miller spun, also Doug Byron, Agars was out with a blown tyre on lap thirty, that gave Herreen the lead, At lap forty Herreen struck problems when a tyre started to de-laminate while working his way through traffic, McCubbin took advantage of the situation and slipped under Herreen when he was baulked by a lapped car, three to go and Wigzel's tyre blew causing a restart, when the race restarted Herreen tried to chase down McCubbin but to no avail, McCubbin won the title ahead of Herreen on the rim, Fisher in third and Fisher ahead of Winterbottom.

2015 - PREMIER SPEEDWAY. AUSTRALIAN SPEEDCAR CHAMPIONSHIP. 27th & 28th February 2015.Premier Speedway has had the honour of hosting the 2014 2015 Australian Speedcar Championship at its venue in Warnnambool. The initial Speedcar heats were run on the first night along with support from the Super Rods.
The second nights racing consisted of the remainder of the heats as well as a hotly contested B Main, of which was won by the West Australian driver in Dane Kingshott. Dane had dropped two of his heats because of an ignition problem and a flat right rear.
The Speedcar feature was a real nail-biter for all concerned, New South Wales driver, Adam Clarke was looking for a back to back win as well as a forth victory, just so happens he was off pole.
The feature was full of action packed passing and re passing, tear ups and restarts. Clarke was never safe at the

front with evential second placed driver Nathan Smee taking it right up to clarke in the later stages of the race, even passing him and holding the lead for an instant, but by the next straight it had been reversed. It would be Alex Bright from the USA driving the Graham Jones, West Australian entry that would fill the third place on the podium.
