1960 - BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
Bristol International Speedway was the result of three men getting together with the aim of bringing Stock Car racing to North East Tennessee. Carl Moore, Larry Carrier and RG Pope bought a 100 acre dairy farm off the Gray's Dairy Company.
Construction comended in 1960 of this 1/2 mile paved oval and it was completed in 12 months, opening in 1961. Initially the turns were banked at 22 degrees, the straights were 60ft wide and the corners 75 foof wide.

1969 - BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY.
In 1969 the track received a major upgrade. It was extended slightly in length to .533 miles and reshaped. The banking in the turns was also increased to 36 degrees.

The ownership changed at Bristol after the completion of the 1976 racing season, from the trio of Moore, Carrier and Pope to Lanny Hester and Gary Baker.

1978 - BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
In early 1978 the name of the venue had been changed to Bristol International Raceway. Along with this came a massive lighting upgrade, this would greatly improve the appeal of the venue to all concerned.

In early to mid 1982 Lanny Lester sold his half of the venue to Warner Hodgdon, by July of 1982 he had also bought out all the other shares to obtain a one hundred percent ownership.

On the 22nd of January 1996 Carrier on sold the venue to Bruton Smith from Speedway Motorsport inc, at a reported price of $26 million US dollars.
