1946 circa - PACKENHAM DRAG STRIP
After the end of World War 2 hundred's of military airfields became available for motor racing, one of these was at Packenham, a suburb of Greater Melbourne. The airstrip was gravel and not sealed.
When Drag Racing got underway in around 1946 the gravel strip was retained, but two concrete launch pads were added at the start line. The venue was quite basic with no frills.
