1921 - ALPINE 1000 MILE TRIAL
The Alpine Rally at it is known now was first run in 1921, as the Alpine 1000 Mile Trial, It is believed to be the longest running car trial event in Australia and one of the longest running events in the world.
The inaugural event was conceived by the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, that first race involved twenty eight drivers covering the one thousand miles in seven days over rugged mountain roads, testing the limits of man and machine.

1926 - ALPINE 1000 MILE TRIAL
In 1926 the Victorian Light Car Club (later to become the Light Car Club of Australia) took over the event
The event became for more competitive in nature at this point, while still utilizing the same landmarks of Omeo and Mount Hotham as the original course.

2001 - ALPINE RALLY
The Historic Rally Association reinvigorated the Alpine in 2001, and moved it to its new home in East Gippsland in 2003.
