1978 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY. 8th April 1978.Phil Hawkins win's Division 1 featureClaremont Speedway regular Phil Hawkins in the big Falcon coupe has tonight won the Division 1 Saloon's feature race held over eight laps of the big Bunbury dirt oval.
Second to the line was Bunbury Speedway former Manager Allan Blake in the Turbocharged Torana GTR-XU1. with third place going to Bob Folley from the Waroona club who was behind the wheel of the ex Johnny Hudson GTS Monaro. Foley also won a heat earlier in the programme as well as Barry Blake from Claremont and Colin Harper from the Donnybrook club.
The Nights programme was suppurted by Junior Saloon's, Standard Saloon's, Division 2 Saloon's and Sprintcar's.

Ready and rarin' to go. Outstanding Bunbury driver Ivan Burke, who has won most major standard saloon car races in his famous Mini in recent years, will move into the division two field this year, again with a mini and should still be a top contender.

Allan Blake recalls: This Torana was built in Bunbury by Kim Abbott and myself, This car was fitted with the turbocharged 202 engine, The paint job was applied by Lloyd Bickerton, Bunbury's leading spray painter at the time and a big supporter of Bunbury Speedway.
SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD TO RACING DRIVER
AUSTRALIAN : Speedway star Allan Blake is the 1977 South Western Times Bunbury Sportsman of the year.His win was announced last night at a reception in the Mayors parlour when he was presented with the AJ (Tod) Buswell Memorial trophy by Bunbury Mayor Mr Pat Usher.
Blake also received a replica of the perpetual cup and the Times "Oscar" as Sportsman of the month for Febuary last year.
He was one of 11 Bunbury sportsmen and women who received the Times "Oscar" as Sportsman of the month for 1977, and in doing so became eligible for the Buswell trophy,
