1957 - SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY
South Boston Speedway or So Bo Speedway as it is also known as, opened on the 10th August 1957 as a 1/4 mile Dirt banked oval speedway. The track was built by three men in EB "Buck" Wilkins, Dave Blount and Louis Spencer.
Three years after opening the speedway received Nascar sanctioning. Another two years after that the track's length was extended to around .400 of a mile, rebanked and sealed with Asphalt.
The venue has hosted many forms of racing over the years, including Modified's, Nascar's, Late Model Stock Car's, Limited Sportsman's, Pure Stock's, Hornet's, Truck's and Vintage.
