It is believed the the name of the venue was changed from Hi Pine Speedway to Southern 500 Speedway in 1970.
1970 - SOUTHERN 500 SPEEDWAY GOES ASPHALT
It has been reported that the Portland track was sealed in 1970 making it possibly the first Asphalt track in the country.
