1972 - MOTORDROME 70 SPEEDWAY.
Motordrome 70 Speedway at Smithton opened in 1972 as a 1/2 mile Dirt Oval Speedway track. This was as a result of the previos Motordrome Speedway nearby at Ruffs Dale closing in 1971. The track only became a proper Nascar sanctioned speedway in 1989, when it was paved. This resulted in the venue hosting weekly series divisions, such as Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Chargers and Super Compact cars. The Speedway closed in 2015 after a few ownership changes and was listed for sale. It has been reported that the site is now use for industrial storage.
