*********************************************************************************************************************************
2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY NEW YEAR BASH Sprintcar's & Late Model's Feature 1st January 2023This would be the biggest project that the Bunbury Car Club has ever taken on, Money wise could they pull it off, The stakes where high, It took a lot of hard work by the Committee, led by Kim Beard and the Special Event's coordinator Morgan Melvin to pull this show off, Pre sale tickets were rolling in and a good walk up crowd was expected. Race day and the pits where loaded, million's of dollars worth of race equipment including 410 Sprintcars.
The ground pounding Super Late Model Sedans who dont often come to Bunbury but they turned up in numbers, and last but not least the Limited Sprintcars, who were born as an association here at Bunbury Speedway, largely in part to the Davis family.

B l a k e'yThe Sedan Car Racer that put Bunbury on the mapBlake'y as we all know him is a fairly well respected man in speedway circles, from his early day racing his FC Holden at Wattle Grove Speedway right through the Turbo Charged Torana day's, in which he won an Australian Saloon Car Title, as well as a

Promoters Association National Championship, which no one wants to talk about today. As well a many other big races including all states of Australia.
Allan first became involved in Bunbury Speedway back in the tracks second season, when the venue was suffering from the blow out costs of building the speedway in 1972 and the costs involved in bringing world class competitors to Bunbury that opening season, The position for the manager was advertised and Allen applied, it became a walk up start for Allan as the previous manager decided to not apply. Allan worked hard and the club saw the money comming in and the race meeting's were of a high standard, Just like the previous manager Tom Dillon, Allan showed the flair that it takes to manage a world class venue.
As time passed Allen packed up with his two boys and moved to Darwin to Promote Bagot Park Speedway, all the time still continuing to race the Torana.
After returning from Darwin Allan while still racing set up a towing and wrecking business in Bunbury and getting deeply involved in the Bunbury Car Club as a member, later earning Life Membership.
During this 1980's period a young rebel by the name of Brad Blake appeared in the pits at Margaret River Speedway with a beat up Cortina Stockie, at this point Allan
|
chose to not get involved but a close friend to the Blake family Ross McKenzie stepped up, It was then that another bunch of blokes jumped in Ivan Burke, Allister McKenna and Brian Moyle to build Brad some new equipment, Brad was away, he dominated were ever he raced, while in his first WA Title he was lapping the field when a slow car moved up putting Brad in the wall and ending his night.
The car was repaired and come title time the following year, Allan was hooked, he saw Brads potential in a speedway car and with Noleen's blessing Brad finished his Stockie period with a WA Championship and many other blue ribbon event wins.
Allan had found a new passion in speedway with Brads career, He built a very quick Cortina Modified Sedan for Brad and before long Brad found himself fighting it out on track with the best of them. Greg Freeman was the man to beat at the time.
While this was going on Allan came to the conclusion that the Mitsubishi Sigma's were starting to dominate, so he built one. Initially Allan would come of retirement to race the car, setting up the car for Brad while Brad continued to race the Cortina.
Allan drove the wheels off the Sigma, ironing the bugs out along the way, he was a fair match for the Freeman and Rose Sigma's, but he did publicly announce over the PA at a presentation after a long distance race, Iam Knackered. Allan did step out of the car and let Brad take over.
There became a period in the clubs life were it lost a bit of direction and Allan was approached to run for President, he did and the benefit's of his experienced
Then came the Super Sedan days, Allan teamed up with AJ Nylander to build a Pontiac Super Sedan.
This was a very successful period for Allan and Brad, Super Sedan Racing in Australia was at its peak and the level of competition was outstanding.
The Late Model Sedan period is what most people can relate to These two have raced all across Australia, winning races and friends racking up State and National Title wins and podium's, all the time helping new drivers into the division, as well as Doing short stints in America. Allan and Brad are both likeable larrikin's who get the most out of life.
Brian Moyle recalls: after spending many years with Allan and him telling me stories, I asked him when are you going to tell me a story i can print. He said i dont have one.

2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY AUSTRALIAN STREET STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP 4th March 2023
B E A R E T O P P O I N T SNo surprise really, Current and six times National Street Stock Champion Anthony Beare from Mount Gambier South Australia leads the points after the first nights racing. Anthony sits on top just five ahead of former West Australian Champion, Hayden Norman. Shane Whild from Manjimup sits in third spot while former two time's National Champion Jamie Oldield is placed fourth, with Mick Hamon also a former two times champion in fifth.
Perfect weather greeted the one hundred and thirteen starters and the track was in great shape. Thirty heats were contested over night one with few drama's and case of the cream rising to the top.

Beare wins after ReligationNight 2 of the Australian Street Stock Championship turned out to be a dramatic affair, once the rest of the heats and the minor feature's were completed. The attension shifted to the A Main and another showdown between Anthony Beare and Jamie Oldfield. Just twenty two finalist made the cut out of the one hundred and four starters on the night.
Hayden Norman and Anthony Beare would start on the front row with the West Australian on pole. When the greens came on Beare would charge around the outside of Norman to take the lead, while Jamie Oldfield moved into third from fourth, these three would split from the main pack, leaving Mick Dann in fourth and Shane
|
Roycroft in fifth. On lap eighteen Oldfield would snatch the lead off Beare. Mid race and the retirements came thick and fast bringing on the yellows, Mick Dann, Hayden Norman, Ethan Genev, Shane Roycroft and Jayden Bromeley, all heading infield. On the restart Oldfield and Beare gapped the field yet again, Mick Hamon was now in third, followed by Ben Norman and Jack Barnewall. On lap thirty two Hamon would slow rapidly causing Kayne Dellar to rear end him, this would take both cars out. With just eight laps remaining a dog fight was evolving between Oldfield and Beare, As the two best Street Stock drivers in Australia ran side by side, Beare would regain the lead on lap thirty seven, but Oldfield was on his tail and exercising a bit of niggle, the white flag came out, Beare was at mid track leaving a giant hole for Oldfield to drive into and that he did, sadly contact was made the disadvantaged Beare. Oldfield crossed the line first ahead of the South Australian Driver. Thats when things got real, Beare charged under Oldfield on the back straight slamming him into the wall in retaliation. Oldfield then charged into Beare spinning him off the track, but Oldfield's car clipped the fence with the right rear quarter causing him to flip, this was all at speed. The Chief Steward then made the decission to relegate Oldfield to third, very strange that no penalty was handed out to beare and he was awarded the win.
Top ten placing for the National title: 1st Anthony Beare, 2nd Ben Norman, 3rd Jamie Oldfield, 4th Jack Barnewall, 5th Ricky Cornwall, 6th Steve Gartner, 7th Jake Hoath, 8th Zane Humphrys, 9th Shane Whild, 10th Bailey Heinrich.

2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY WEST AUSTRALIAN SUPER SEDAN CHAMPIONSHIP 25th March 2023D U S T I N n o t D U S T YDustin Higgs has taken out the 2022 / 2023 West Australian Super Sedan Championship here at Bunbury Speedway tonight.
This has made it five years in a row for the Higgs family, with Dustin's farther Dusty "Gary" winning the last four. Dustin has only returned to racing not so long ago after some major health issues. So you can only imagine how high the emotions were running in that camp.
Second across the line after the gruelling forty lap feature was Tristan Green who put in a solid performance over the night. Starting the feature off the front row alongside Rob Knox. He had to fight all the way trading positions with Knox, Kyle Larson and Dustin Higgs to earn his second place.
|
Ajay Hammer who started out of position seven, had already won over the big Bunbury crowd after her win in the last heat was entrenched in a intense battle with a group that included Lee Aylett, Brent Vosbergen, Kevin Bell, Phil Barton, Warren Minshull and Keith Higgs. The race was at the back end and Ajay was in third, she did get passed Green into second after he went wide, but this would be revered after a yellow light stoppage sent the field back to the last recorded lap. After a green white checker the final results would read. 1st Dustin Higgs - 2nd Tristan Green - 3rd Ajay Hammer - 4th Kemble Aylett - 5th Nathan Thiele - 6th Lee Aylett - 7th Andrew Kennedy - DNF Kevin Bell - Rob Knox - Warren Minshull - Kyle Larson - Steve Schofield - Brent Vosbergen - Bryce Fisher - Keith Higgs - Phil Barton - Ryan Huxtable - Steve Larson - Lukas Lampert - Garry Higgs and Terry Green.

2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY
The Club Members That Never Stop Giving
The Bunbury Car Club was first established many years ago, back in the mid 1950's and had gone on to become the business minded club that it is today. So it is expected that within the current membership base there are some long time life members that are allway's seeking ways of improving the asset that we call Bunbury City Speedway. One of these member's is Nola Whitehead.Nola was introduced to the speedway world by her farther Doug Whitehead who was a TQ racer from an early age, he was also a gifted mechanic and a collector of some very smart cars and motorcycles |
Nola became involved with the Bunbury Club in the 1970's and played out many rolls including, Race Organizing and Handicaping, Catering duties and what most people remember her from, Fund raising through various forms, such as her Trouperdores concerts that rocked the Italian Club to the early hours. She led the charge for the Krikke Boys with there fund raising functions and the Annual big Race, She ran the Legends night function that packed the best speedway racers in West Australia into one room to honor the sport. the officials, promoters, press, crews, volunteers and families, and then there was the 50 year celebration function at the speedway that was reported by all as a ripper reunion.
Nola's ability to take on major costly upgrades to the venue amaze us all. in recent time she has had many projects on the go that have come in at no cost or a very small cost to the club, Such as Internet connection to the venue, The upgrade to the club rooms interior to give it a modern look. Putting a contra deal and plan in place with Hastie Waste for Waste Disposal. Her latest project was these aging corperate boxes that were up for lease, Nola struck a deal with LGM Industries to lease a box with part of the deal to errect a roof over all of the 3 boxes and a new viewing platform at the front. Smiles all round for this one.

2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY STREET STOCK SUMMER CUP 11th November 2023Bunbury City Speedway opened on Saturday for the first time in the 2023 / 2024 racing season with an all Sedan Meeting. It was nice weather that greeted the Drivers, Crews, Officials and later the spectators.
The night's racing was a good solid display of door to door racing from all the Divisions that had the spectataters, mainly friends and families on the edge of there seats.
The feature of the night's program was the Summer Cup for Street Stock's, this year in honor of one of the club's hard working officials Peter Finch who had passed away while on holiday's up North, Peter was a scrutineer for the sport and a well known car constructor, based in Bunbury.
The numbers for this years race was a little bit light on with less than 20 nominations upon closing. The racing was keen and solid throughout the heats with a few mixed
|
results. No shock's in the feature though with the top 5 being within the first 5 places. 1st went to Matt Hammond, 2nd Ethan Genev, 3rd David Padmore, 4th Cody Avins and 5th Brett Brennan. A lot off crowd favorite's were no ware to be seen this year, like Jamie, Warren or Jason Oldfied, possibly because of this being the first year since opening in 1972 that the club has not employed a Promoter. This state is chocker with talented Street Stock drivers, as well there are interstate teams that love to travel to these money events, or was it the lack of money or other incentives, I dont know how much was offered, i did not see it it the lead up advertising. Anyhow it was still a fine honour to bestow upon our mate Peter Finch. The rest of the field in the feature consisted of 6th Daniel Ameduri, 7th Peter Dowie, 8th Josh Aspinall, 9th Scott Hunter and 10th Mark Higgins, the rest of the field recorded DNF's or DNS's.
All the support division's put on a fantastic display, especially the Legend Cars, the class is attracting new drivers all the time, its only the lack of available cars that are holding them back. The little Hot Rods with the motorcycle engines are magic to watch. As always the Juniors put on some of the best racing on the night.

2023 - BUNBURY CITY SPEEDWAY LIMITED SPRINTCARS [round 5] & Junior Sedan feature [round 4] 9th December 2023K e e n Survives Tyre BurnerBunbury Speedway commentator Jason Crowe had summed it up the best in his pre feature race address to the small group of spectators in attendance at Bunbury Speedway tonight.
As the twenty two Limited Sprintcar field lined up for the feature race Jason declaring the track Slick and Dusty and I dont want to say it's going to be last man standing but it is going to take a lot of effort to get this one first to the finish line, and that's exactly how it played out as Michael Keen survived the twenty laps to take his third win for the season, from
|
Nathan Davis in second and Dominic Riffici in third. After last weekends tango, Michael Keen and Joel Ettridge would line up on the front row of the feature race, with Jarin Bielby and Dom Rifici in the second row with Mathew Peaker and Chad Pittard behind them.
The first attempt at a start would have to be redone as Jarin Bielby had suspension failure at the front of his car leaving Peaker nowhere to go but getting caught on his left rear tyre. Rookie Amy Waldron withdrew from the race as her machine came to a stop on the back straight under the caution lights.
This time, Ettridge would get the better run off turn four to start the race and grab the lead from Keen. Unlike last week where he lost ground during the opening laps of the feature race, Pittard got a great start, slipping into third, Nathan Davis fourth followed by Dom Refici, Kent Roberts, Matt Davis, Brad Warwick, Mat Borgas, Aaron Chircop, Todd Davis, Greg Clarke, Kye Scroop, Glenn Dickinson, Bailey Nash, Anthony Gaudio, Mathew Laughton, Mike Hanlon, Stephanie Hanlon and Mathew Peaker.
The race wouldn't stay green for very long, when Glenn Dickinson had all sorts of problems bouncing through the air after contact with another car on lap two. As the race was under yellow, Aaron Chircop also took his Powerwest Electrical number 45 to the infield.
Ettridge would lead the field away at the restart with Keen following closely. Matt Davis picked off Roberts to move into position six. Matt's brother Nathan would also gain a spot taking third from Pittard. By lap seven Ettridge had opened a handy margin over Keen leading by 2.071 seconds.
With nine laps completed Ettridge had caught the back of the field and was looking to build on his advantage. Ettridge got stuck behind Stephanie Hanlon for a lap and went wide on the entry to turn one and Keen was right there. Lapped traffic brought the undoing of Ettridge and Keen in Albany, could they get through cleanly this time round.
Ettridge creating the path through the lapped traffic and Keen waiting patiently for his moment two car lengths behind. With six laps to go it was time for a breather as Stephanie Hanlon spun the McDonolds number [71] in pits bend.
On the restart Ettridge would lead the field away from Keen, Nathan and Matt Davis, Pittard, Warwick, Rifici, Todd Davis, Nash, Roberts, Gaudio, Borgas, Laughton, Peaker, Scroop, Mike and Stephanie Hanlon.
A lap after the restart, Keen pounced as Ettridge made a mistake exiting turn two, Keen grabbing the lead down the back straight but Mathew Peaker would spin in turns one and two. meaning the pass for the lead didn't count.
The race would re commence under Ettridge's signal once again. Brad Warwick was on the move, passing Pittard for 5th and a lap later would pass Matt Davis for 4th in turn two. Davis would then have a tyre explode along the back straight and causing a stopage once more.
The drivers were now hunting for any moisture they could find to cool their tyres as many felt they were on the brink.
Ettridge would lead the field away again as Warwick slowed and went infield, Kent Roberts suffering the same fate as Davis with his right rear letting go forcing him to retire.
With three laps to go Ettridge led the field away at the restart from Keen, Nathan Davis, Pittard, Rifici rounding out the top five. With two laps to go Keen pulled along the inside of Ettridge and as they made their way into turn three, Ettridge blew his right rear tyre, Pittard would also suffer the same outcome in turn three, blowing his tyre.
Keen would then inherit the race lead for a green, white, checker restart. Davis would apply what pressure he could on his tail hoping for a way by, but Keen would hold on to take the win from Davis, Rifici,Tod Davis, Nash, Gaudio, Scroop, Borgas, Laughton and Stephanie Hanlon. Both Hanlon's also suffered from tyres letting go, Mike failing to finish with Stephanie nursing her car home in tenth.
Earlier in the night we kicked thing's off with six heat races, with wins going the way of, Greg Clarke, Dylan Sexton, Keen, Bielby, Rifici, and Warwick. Clayton Dickerson and Dylan Sexton succumbed to engine failure's during the heat races while Peter Stepherdson also had to withdraw from racing with other mechanical problems.

BUNBURY CAR CLUB STATEMENT
In light of the recent event at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway on December 9, The Bunbury Car Club would like to issue the following statement on the past and present 12 months at the venue.
Over the recent off season, the Bunbury Car Club has continued to improve the venue. The biggest, but maybe not seen by the naked eye is hydraulic power packs to our track entry and exit gates to help assist our volunteers in opening and closing the gates. The gates are weighty and adding hydraulic rams will eliminate the chance of any hazards seen by manually operating these gates.
Yet again, after last Saturday's Limited Sprintcar and Junior Speedway Racing Association event, the abrasive nature of the track surface again caused concerns over the aggressive tyre wear in the Limited Sprintcar Main event.
New equipment has also been brought into the club to help with day-to-day track preperation with the purchase of a power harrow that our track manager, Logan Hair made.
Hair also our track curator, has gone out and sourced equipment to help alleviate the risk of the track getting to the point of taking rubber. As we have seen used repeatedly by tracks, these harrows will help turn the dirt around and racing will again resume fast.
The Bunbury Car Club has complete faith in the work Hair has been doing and with the backing and advice he has been receiving from some of the best industry professionals in the country we do believe he is on his way to becoming one of the best assets to the Bunbury Car Club and the greater West Australian Speedway community.
Some photo's were posted on social media over the week of the content in the track. The Bunbury Car Club would like to acknowledge those photo's are of the track after an event but from the previous season, not the December 9 event.
Just like our statement eleven months ago, the Bunbury Car Club will try their best to help elevate the risk of drastic tyre wear. We are trying to start as late as possible along with several track track preperations during the night, we also understand that the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series and Late Models are in action the next night at the Perth Motorplex and will work to get the show done as early as possible.
We want to thank Gavin Migro, the Perth Motorplex staff and the Sprintcar Entrants Group for helping the Bunbury Car Club over these major events.
Regarding the track surface, the Bunbury Car Club, along with its long time supporters and sponsors is discussing changing the material on the track.
We have found two clay deposit's in the region, and discussions are now in place with the land owners to have these deposits sampled. Once this has been achieved and the samples have been accepted as sound material, the Bunbury Car Club is on stand by with earthmoving equipment and trucks. We cannot thank everyone who has put their hand up and is willing to help.
We understand that this doesn't happen overnight and the chances of tyre wear are still high for our remaining nights, but we continuously thank the drivers for their support and i hope to see you on January 1. Regards: Kim Beard President of the Bunbury Car Club.

2015 to 2023 - Is It History Repeating Itself
Brian Moyle recalls: back in 2015 when Bunbury City Speedway was under control of Krikke Boys Pty-Ltd the track surface was past its used by date, it was dusting up and destoying tyres. Ron and John acted swiftly and called on the track team of Colin Resta, Colin Francis and Murray Hanson to fix the problem as a major horse-power invasion was about to come to Bunbury City Speedway, with the hosting of the Australian Sprintcar Championship. So with the backing of Piacentini's and Catalano's. Two company's that have been partnering the Bunbury Car Club since 1972. The track was resurfaced and the Championship event went ahead very successfully. The most amazing part of the upgrade was it all happened at no cost to the Club or Promoter's.
