2018 - AVON VALLEY SPEEDWAY. SUPER SEDAN SUMMER SHOWDOWN. 1st December 2018.After a long recess the Avon Valley Speedway opened on Saturday night the 1st of December 2018, Long time promoter Rod Howe has decided to step down from promoting the venue as well as running it.
A whole new management committee from the new Pro Modified division has taken over the promotion of the venue, headed up by Brad Ludlow, This leaves the track curation only to Rod Howe.
So far this has not been an easy task for the new team with a lot of previous administration problems to rectify as well as a lack of faith in the venue continuing to operate.
Add to that the team has put up with a lot of bullying from other's who feel threatened by Avon Valley's potential for success, this may have something to do with Avon Valley fostering some of the fringe divisions of racing that are not accepted by our main stream administrators.
In relation to a wrap up of the meeting, The lack of preparation of the race track got the meeting off to a slow start but to the curators credit he got that high banked bowl very racey as the night went on,
The new Pro Modified group put on a fantastic display of wheel to wheel racing over the whole night, racing all over the raceway, often 3 wide through the banked turns,
This division should be a yard stick for other divisions in the sport, some of there rules are quite clever, such as, in simple terms, The engine rule allows for a wide range of engine sizes, The bigger the engine the smaller the rear wing you can run. Go figure you dont have to be a aircraft engineer to work out the merrett in this rule,
The Pro Modified Association are breaking new ground at the moment, apart from West Coast Speedcars who are rebuilding Corrigin Speedway, The Pro Modified group are the only division in West Australia to step up, Maintain and promote there own speedway, In this day and age, with all the doom and gloom in speedway, this team is having a fair crack.
The Super Sedans were down on numbers as some of the drives were committed to a meeting at Mount Barker, right from race one they set a cracking pace, running up high around the banked arena, if the track was testing, no one told the drivers, Kemble Aylett set the pace most of the night,
|
Adym Harvey from Bunbury fresh from his Feature win at the WASCF 50th Celebration meeting, rolled his 88 machine in the first heat, Kevin Bell also received enough damage in the same heat, this sidelined both of them for the night.
The Junior Sedan Association who were also on the program but held a drivers and parents meeting after the super sedan roll over, and chose to not par take in the meeting, Very good judgement on every one's behalf.
The Speedcars were down on there usual numbers, but there racing was highlight with the grudge match between Ken Reid and Simon North all night, both drivers handling the rough very well.
