1937 - DEVILS BOWL SPEEDWAY [John West Road]
The first Devils Bowl Speedway on John West Road opened in 1937 as a 1/4 mile dirt oval track, focusing on Midget racing. The racing was holted in 1942 because of the world wide ban on motor racing.
When the track reopened in 1946 it had been extended to a 1/3 mile. Modifieds featured during the 1950's and became a fan favorite. In the 1960's it seemed like the average returns that running a speedway offered and the rockerting land values may have been too much for the owner to pass up a very big offer. The speedway closed in 1966.
