1948 - MITTAGONG AIRSTRIP
After World War 2 there were many emergency or dispersal airstrips sitting idle around New South Wales, Car and Motorcycle clubs saw them as ready built race tracks.
Lower Mittagong was one of these airstrips used briefly by the Mittagong Motor Cycle Club.

1948 - MITTAGONG AIRSTRIP MOTOR CYCLE RACES 10th October 1948The 10th of October was the first report of motorcycle races at the airstrip, It was part of the Iron Week celebrations when the MMCC combined with the Mittagong District Cycle Club to hold an event.
It appears that the event was shifted from the 3rd to the tenth,Over 2000 attended the event, Sydney rider were here in numbers.

1949 - MITTAGONG AIRSTRIP MOTOR CYCLE RACES 27th March 1949Once again the advertised races were not held on the 20th of March but on the 27th.
Acrowd of over 600 was not only entertained by the races, being Solos and Sidecars but also the Mittagong Town Band.
The sidecar race was declared a non event when two competitors petulantly had a slow race.
