1947 - LAKEVIEW SPEEDWAY CONSTRUCTION

The inception of Lakeview Speedway came about in 1947 after a meeting in the Ebony room at the Streamline Hotel in Lexington North Carolina, NASCAR was to be the new santioning body.

1948 - LAKEVIEW SPEEDWAY OPENING

Lakeview Speedway opened as a 5/8 mile dirt oval speedway in 1948 with the aim of holding NASCAR sanctioned race meetings.
During its inaugural season crowds of around ten thousand paying spectators would pack into Lakeview to watch these hotted up pre war flat head V8 powered coupes, known as modifieds race for the glory and the gold.
Despite the tracks incredable success it only lasted for a short time, closing after a couple of seasons.
