1929 - LIDCOMBE SPEEDWAY
The first speedway meeting at the Lidcombe Showground track was held on the 4th of May 1929, The 2nd meeting was held in mid June of 1929, with the third and the last being held on the 20th of July 1929, The death of a competitor, Russell Aster, at the 20th of July meeting may have even led to the speedway closing, in fact the officials deemed the track, was too fast and a danger to the competitors and spectators, as the bike's were getting airborn. From that day on the racing stopped and there was no further reference to the words Lidcombe Speedway.
