Finley started as a 1/2 mile short circuit and in 1975 the club relaunched the track as an almost perfect 1/4 mile oval speedway. It was a pleasure to race on and attracted drivers from N.E.H.R.A, Ballarat, Bendigo,Melbourne, O.M.S.R.H.R.A, Sydney and Northern NSW, Fred Sutherland held the new track record for Saloons with 23 seconds, Shepparton's Kevin Barnier took the new Open Wheelers record at 24 seconds, An annual pilgrimage by Sydney's Mini Modified brigade was a feature of the June long weekend at Finley. By 1976 the Finley and District Auto Club and Boomerang Speedway were thriving, with the running of an extremely successful day's racing on June 13, Feature of the day was a $1,000 race for Modified Saloons. To give some idea of the quality and geographic areas of the cars competing the main race was won by Tony Nicholas (NEHRA 1 supercharged Torana) from Kevin Parkinson (Ballarat V8 Kingswood) and Kevin Annett (Portland V8 Monaro) The place-getters in the Standard Saloons were all EH Holdens-Ron Williams (Echuca) from Geoff Collins (Shepparton) and Ern Overall (Ballarat)

associated with spectator safety. To upgrade the facilities to comply with the required new safety fence specifications was not fiancially viable and Boomerang Speedway closed in 1979.
