1971 - COLLIE SPEEDWAY OFFICIAL OPENING 4th December 1971When Collie Speedway opened on the 1st of December 1971, it rivaled any other country track as well as the big Claremont Speedway at the Showground, Collie's new night time speedway was a sight to see.
Meanwhile down the hill the Bunbury Car Club who had lost there lease at Blicks Raceway were looking for a new site, The club did find a parcel of land on the North Boyanup Road but it was a year behind collie when it opened.

1971 - JUNIOR SEDANS
It has been a hot topic for many years as to where Junior Sedan racing first commenced in West Australia, Collie Speedway started junior racing in junior cars along with the opening of its new speedway track on the Williams Road in 1971.

Car: Austin A40Phil Baker was already a part of a speedway family when he was old enough to race, His farther Vern was himself a gun Production Sedan driver at the time, running his 48 series Holden at his home track of Blicks Raceway at Bunbury, as well as around all the South West Tracks.
Phils first Junior sedan was to become a major problem, in the fact that in his first three races he rolled over on three occasions, however Phil did keep racing up until a better car was located, that being a 100E Prefect, and then later on a Triumph Herald.
