It was about this time that the Midgets and Hot Rods had lost the ability to draw big crowds, so Stock Cars were introduced, but on a 1/3 mile oval track.
The track was very popular during its life time but faced a constant uphill battle with the Fairgrounds board and the hovering developers. The noise and dust complaints as well as the ever increasing land value's would force the track to close in 1999.
