1965 - ROTORUE RUGBY PARK SPEEDWAY. SPECIAL SPEEDWAY MEETING. 1965.One only initial meeting was held at the Rugby Park under the direction of Reece Facoory who was the track manager. The meeting went ahead despite major concerns over the ill prepared rectangular shaped piece of dirt that was the race track.
USA midget driver Bob Tattersall headlined the competitors list, he was one of the drivers that had concerns about the tracks rough surface, but nothing was done.
The meeting proceeded without loss of life or injury, but it could be said that the Solo riders, tq and midget drivers all dodged a bullet while competing. no further meeting's were planned that year, that was until the Rotorue Stock Car Club put there hand up and asked if they could take over the racing at the park.
