Richmond Racecourse opened in a period prior to 1892, holding horse racing under the control of the Richmond Pony and Galloway Club.

1913 - RICHMOND RACECOURSE SPEEDWAYRichmond Raceway Speedway opened on the half mile horse racing track on the 22nd of November 1913.
This was after a long battle with the Authorities over potential safety concerns.

The half mile track on the Richmond Autodrome which was formally a horse track, was opened last Saturday afternoon. Bill Rogers reached the finals at the meeting during the afternoon and was in the final. The afternoon meeting at Richmond provided many thrills, and the program included Solo and Sidecar motorcycle events and car races. Two exciting incidents happened in the motorcycle events. The first was when an attendent stepped in front of a speeding sidecar outfit and saved himself by leaping in the air, The machine passed beneath him and the second when, A Provan was torn from his machine through a tape from the starting machine failing and wrapping around his neck..
Car races in the car program, a special match race was staged between Arthur Terdich in his Supercharged Bugatti and B Dentry in his Riley who was accompanied by his wife as a passenger. Terdich jumped to the front and maintained a lead from start to finish completing the three laps in 2min 16 1.5sec. In the car Persuit race, Stogdale nearly capsized after hitting a fence on the inside of the track.
