1935 - WATERFALL HILLCLIMBOne of the most successful pre World War 2 Hill Climbs were held on a by-passed section of the Princes Highway on a hill leading up to the Waterfall Sanatorium 26 miles south of Sydney.
The New South Wales Light Car Club held the first event in 1935 and they continued up until World War 2.
It was well conducted with a Public Address system, Crowds of around one thousand people were reported as attending, The starting line was down at the Helensburgh end (near the current Freeway) and finished up near the Sanatorium now the Garrawarra Aged Car facility.
Many famous car racers of the day competed there successfully.
Film footage was taken in August of 1939, check the link, however it has an incorrect location noted, The extra modern footage is no where near the real location.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bubXqKwLvcwIn 1954 the MG Car Club were granted permission to run an event there but it is unknown if the event went ahead.
