1930's - BUNDAMBA RACECOURSE SPEEDWAY
The first known speedway meeting held was a long track event built on a purpose build bike track around the outside of the horse track, Bundamba Racecourse was also the original home of the Ipswich Show before the purpose built showgrounds were constructed, It is possible that this first meeting was a part of the show activities, It is said that Speedway at Mundamba drew good size crowds.
Ipswich people were hungry for speedway and supported the venue well, Speedway was so popular in Ipswich in the 1930's that the local newsagent sold goggles to the local kids, the kids would go home and race each other on pushbikes around the back yard.
