1971 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL MODIFIED TITLE
Briton new AussieModified ChampionBriton drove a polished race to convincingly win the National Modified Championship at the Sydney Showground on Saturday, January 9. Facing a strong line-up of wheel twisters including Larry Burton (USA), defending champion Billy Wigzell (South Australia), Ray Geneve (Western Australia) Tim Moncrieff (Tasmania), Noel Joy (Queensland), Les Harrower (Victoria), Gordon Peterson (Canberra), Briton was not overawed and carved through the field in his usual determined style, The win gave Briton his third Australian Title, his previous successes were in 1964 and 1966.

1971 - SYDNEY SHOWGROUND SPEEDWAY. CRAVEN FILTER NATIONAL SPEEDCAR CHAMPIONSHIP Grand Final. 6th February 1971.Billed as the 7th and final Speedway Solo Test match between England and Australia at the Sydney Showground Speedway, The team manager Peter White was faced with the absence of many of the top Australian riders.
Jim Airey did not ride, Bert Kingston was addmitted as team Captain with a score of (18 points maximum) John Boulger was out, Langfield and Kentwell both out. This left Queenslanders as half of the Australian team.
It did not seem to be a problem as the Kangaroos went on to win.
