With 24 of the States best competitors and the national Title from New South Wales this years championship was going to be excitement plus, Right from the start the Australian Champion, Bob Worling had both drivers and spectators alike gasping in awe as he arrived at the track with not one, but two late model Commodores sporting the new v6 engines, The mechanical technology and flawless presentation of these cars had everbody saying that this guy means business and will be the one to beat, And so they should with two National Titles and numerous State Titles under his belt, this man is certainly here to take our State Championship back East.

The track record for 10 laps was broken on the first night in heat 9, The old time of 3.48.24 being lowered to 3.33.13 by Greg Freeman.
Looking back over the heat results you can notice that the best the Aussie champ could manage was one win and a second, The first night the car was dogged by power steering problems while on the second night Worling had handling problems.

56 Rob Landsmeer - Phil Rose WA1 on the top - Greg Freeman 5 - and Max Dunston in the Commodore.
With egual points for Blake and Freeman the coin was tossed which saw Freeman take pole position, Hard luck story of the weekend must go to Rob Thomson of Esperance who after qualifying 5th couldn't start in the final due to engine problems.
When the green light came on in the feature race Greg Freeman shot straight to the lead and stayed there for the entire 40 laps which included many restarts and lapping over half the field, nothing was going to stop him winning this one.
Allan Blake tried everthing he could but was no match for Freeman who was driving his Sigma around the circuit like it was on rails.
Phil Rose slotted into third with Peter Harvey fourth, Right back through the field there were some terrific contests going on for the entire race, Bob Worling had made his way up the fifth behind Harvey when Harvey lost a wheel allowing Worling into fourth place but not for long, Gearbox problems sidelined Bob in the big Commodore.
Further back in the field the big move was coming from Brad Blake who started in position seventeen and was now running in the top six, Steve Hancock dashed his hopes when lost a wheel forcing him to the infield. At the front of the field Freeman looked very comfortable lapping back markers with ease, Allan Blake looked content to settle for second but defending champ Phil Rose had other ideas and shot passed Blake to have the twm FRM Sigmas first and second and that the way they crossed the line, Freeman, Rose, Allan Blake and a fine drive by Brad Blake to finiosh fourth.
And so once again the state title is kept in Bunbury, Albany drivers Marden, Theyer, and Kinnear came in fifth, sixth and seventh with Bunbury's Barry Thomson in eight.
