1930's - CAVALIER KENNEL CLUB
Local Greyhound racing got its start in Norfolk County prior to Virginia officials closing down its operations, The club then moved to Moyock, half a mile south of the state border.
The track was a quarter mile oval and attracted punters and spectators from all over the Hampton Roads region, The venues primary market was the thousands of Navy servicemen that were stationed at the Norfolk base.
Not long after the track opened the North Carolina Supreme Court upheld the State Legislature's anti dog racing law in 1954, and the track was closed.

1962 - DOG TRACK SPEEDWAY
After dog racing was banned in North Carolina in the 1950's Moyock began to host dirt track speedway events on the 1/4 mile oval.

1964 - NASCAR TRACK UPGRADE
The former 1/4 mile circuit was paved and lengthened to 1/3 mile in 1964, In all seven NASCAR races were held at the venue between 1962 and 1996, The Moyock 300 was held there in 1964 and 1965 as well as the Tidewater 300 in 1965.
The last NASCAR event held was run on the 29th of May 1966, This was a 301 lap race at a distance of 99.9 miles.
The track closed at end of 1966 due to declining spectator numbers.
