1956 - SAN GABRIEL DRAG STRIP [1]
San Gabriel Drag Strip or [Old San Gabe] as it was also known, opened as a 1/4 mile dragstip in 1956. The track only operated for a short time, closing in 1958, But not before the death of Roger Stinson who flipped his car while racing. Another replacement track opened up within the same region shortly after.

1956 - ROGER STINSON.
Roger Stinson was killed in a drag racing accident at San Gabiel Drag Strip just three weeks after opening.
His Mercury powered Austin went out of control at an estimated 110mph, he was thrown from the car as it end for ended down the strip, Roger is survived by his wife Wanda and his two children.

1960's early - SAN GABRIEL DRAG STRIP [2]
The replacement strip that opened was also known as San Gabriel Drag Strip and was almost in the same location. It is believed that it opened in circa 1962 and closed down sometime prior to 1965, when Irwindale Raceway opened.
