Dick Willis recalls: One of my favorite Charlie Smith pics, in the 1963 Armstrong 500 the Mini Cooper broke the right front wheel in Murrays Corner. Charlie ran across the road to the pits to get another wheel then fitted it, presumably with the tools carried in the car, all this while the race carried on, they lost about ten laps with this episode but with co driver Ron Hodgson they finished. Imagine the furore if someone tried to do this today.
