1826 - SYRACUSE MILE. Harness Racing.
The Syracuse mile situated within the New York State Fairgrounds hosted harness racing from it opening in 1826 right through until 2005.
The Hambletonian Stakes were held from 1926 through until 1929. In the early 1970's a new 16,000 seat grandstand was built as part of an unsuccessful attempt to bring back the Hambletonian Stakes.
1900 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
In 1900, a $10,000 bid was awarded to build a dirt track suitable for Auto Racing on the perimeter of the harness track.

1903 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
The first Auto race was held at the venue in 1903, Barney Oldfield driving his car named the 'Baby Bullet' won this event, averaging over 60 mph in a lap around the mile.

1949 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
Sportsman Modified Stock Cars were introduced to the raceway on the labour day weekend in 1949 by way of the New York State Fair Championship. These races would remain on the program up until 2003.
New York racer Cliff Kotary reigned as the State Fair Champion for 6 straight years (1960 - 1965)

1955 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
In 1955 the first of three races for what is now referred to as the NASCAR Cup Series at the Fairgrounds. Tim Flock, Buck Baker and Gwyn Staley were victorious in the three events held from 1955 through to 1957. Nascar's Convertable Stock Car Series also competed in 1956 and 1957. Curtis Turner and Possum Jones were victorious in those events.

1970 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
In 1970 the race track was nicknamed the "The Moody Mile" after driver Wes Moody turned a 100mph lap in.

1972 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
By 1972 Glenn Donnelly had taken over the promotion of the speedway. He set about introducing many new events and was rewarded with a great deal of success.

2015 - SYRACUSE MILE. Auto Racing.
In 2015 the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced wholesale changes to the venue. Sadly the Speedway was then forced to close.
