Ray was thrust into the world of bussiness at the early age of eighteen after his farther Mick Geneve who was a motorcycle and car champion on dirt and the black stuff, died after crashing his road race Corvette at the Caversham Raceway in Perth WA during an event. The garage that Mick ran was a family affair with young Ray 18 years old, working as a mechanic, his daughter Janice, just fourteen working as a book keeper, while mum Mrs Geneve now had to control the bussiness.Over the years we have seen Ray grow from a fresh young rookie racecar driver, on the dirt at Forrestfield and the tar at the Albany street circuit, grow into a West Australian champion that travelled through out the speedway tracks of Australia, building up a reputation of iam in town to win, let's rumble. Now what about that Ray verses Alf deal, trust me that was real, nothing was out of bounds, these guys raced like they were racing for pink slips.Sprintcar racing in these early years was as keen as it is today, Drivers often would turn there fellow competitors into the wall, or turn them up-side-down to win track position. |
