1962 - CAVERSHAM RACEWAY AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 18th November 1962On the 18th of November 1962 the running of the Australian Grand Prix became a big test for the financially strapped West Australian Club, but they managed to pull it off, just!!
The biggest race in Australia was on loan to Western Australia, as it was reported, possibly to take advantage of the large crowds of people that were expected to flock to the state for the Commonwealth Games that were being held in Perth.
It was also reported that only 7,000 spectator's turned out for the racing, the low number was a large blow to the bank balance, official's were left guessing to the rason's why as the weather was perfect.
During the race a fierce contest was brewing between Jack Brabham in his formula libre edition of his Formula one Brabham fitted with a 2.7 Climax engine and the Australian

Grand Prix rookie Bruce McLaren in a Cooper Climax. Brabham would be forced from the race after hitting a back marker in the latter stages of the race allowing McLaren to take the victory over John Youl from Tasmania in the ex Brabham 2.5 pencil-line Cooper.
