Located at what was called the Tennessee Carolina Fairgrounds, the track was built as a 1/2 mile banked dirt track and was named Newport Speedway.
In 1956, it ran the first NASCAR race in Tennessee and was won by Fireball Roberts, They also received another race the following year, won by Fireball Roberts also.
The track would run regular Stock Car events and Midgets would also run on occasions.
Unfortunately after the 1967 season racing stopped as the promoter anf fair board couldn't agree to terms and racing never returned.
