1964 - JOHN FENTON Speedcars
John started racing go carts at the age of fourteen and later Hot Rods at Perth's Claremont Speedway.
In 1964 John moved into supermodified racing, but it would be in 1968/1969 John's speedcar career would start, this would be the same start date for two other Perth drivers in Keith Mann and Charlie West.
John would later purchase a Sesco from Hank Butcher and show his versatility by winning National tital's on the Rowley Park dirt circuit in 1975 and on the Liverpool asphalt circuit in 1976, prior to this John was runner up in 1971 and third in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
John's record included seven West Australian titals and runner up on five occasions, he has taken out fifty nine feature wins at Claremont Speedway, the most of any speedcar driver, including ten in one season, also the 1977 one hundred lap speedcar feature race in Brisbane.
In 1976 the ex AJ Foyt Volkswagon was purchased and John went on to win the Bob Tattersall Memorial Race from New Zealand's Larry Rice and then finished second to him the following week at the World Speedcar Derby
In 1976 John won the Northern Territory speedcar tital and then again in 1980.
John retired from full time racing and with help from his farther Ken took over the running of the Bunbury Speedway, this would see the introduction of Super Cross motorcyle racing under lights in WA.
During John's time at Bunbury he played a major roll in getting a young man by the name of Ron Krikke his start in sprintcar racing.
John would move on to focus more on motocross and mentor his son Tony.

1964 - DICK BRITTON Supermodified's

Mick Thomson recalls: It was just after Dick Britton had won his Australian Super Modified Chamionship at Windsor RSL Speedway in September of 1964 in his Supercharged Jaguar powered car, He was contracted by Aub Lawson to bring the Super Mod to Perth and take on the locals at the big Claremont Showground Speedway.
Dick for filled his contract with a great deal of success, A situation presented itself between Dick and Aub after Dick also raced the car at Forrestfield Speedway, Aub was not happy and Dick beleived he was not in breach of his contract as there were no clauses in the contract.
Iam unsure if Dick took the car back east with him when he was finished and David Rockford shipped the car back or weather he brought it prior to Dick leaving, David raced the car with a lot of success before he onsold it, I beleive that the car was brought and raced by a racer from the Augusta Margaret River club.
