1949 - NURIOOTPA BAROSSA VINTAGE FESTIVAL ROAD RACEOn the 23rd of April 1949 as part of the Nuriootpa Barossa Vintage Festival, the organisers added motor cycle and car racing to the celebrations.
Racing on the day was in a clock wise direction.
The event was a hugh success, reports indicate there was around 30,000 peaple in attendance in this small town causing a fair bit of havoc.
Les Deiner was succesfull on the day taking out the win in the 5 lap Junior TT on his 350cc Velocette machine.
Sadley prior the days racing getting underway the news of a local policeman loosing his life in a motorcycle accident early that morning spread through the town.

1950 - NURIOOTPA AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX
Nuriootpa hosted the 1950 Australian Grand Prix on the 2nd of January 1950, The circuit was layed out on public roads throughout to town.
The race was won by Doug Whiteford in a Ford V8 special.

Mathew Magilton recalls: This car pictured is a MG-NA Magnette that was entered in the 1950 Australian Grand Prix at Nuriootpa with Max Galt behind the wheel, he forced to retire from the race in its early stage's with mechanical problems. This same car had been entered in the 1939 Australian Grand Prix, entered by Dr Robert Mancer and Lyster Jackson, they came in tenth. This same car was owned by my farther from 1962 onwards.

Doug Gorden recalls: Ron Kennedy in 33 finished the Australian Grand Prix 3rd on handicap and Don Cant in 35 finished 4th, They spent most of the race this close together.
Kennedy was later killed in a crash (not this day) and his TC was donated to the Sporting Car Club of South Australia, It was sold off and the proceed's used to pay a deposit on the original clubrooms at Beulah Park.
