1951 - COROWA MOTOR SPORTS CLUB
When telling the story of Wahgunyah Hot Rod Track you need to back track to 1951 when the Corowa Motor Sports Club was formed, The Corawa club was very active and was involved in various different motor sport events, and at a lot of different venues.
During the 1950's, New South Wales motoring clubs were having insurance issues, whereas in Victoria, if the profit was given away, insurance was treated differentlly, So the club proceeded to search for a suitable venue across the river from Corowa and found it at Wahgunyah recreation Reserve, where they created what would become their official race circuit.

1958 - WAHGUNYAH HOT ROD TRACK
Wahgunyah Hot Rod Track opened officially on Easter Sunday of 1958.
The original track was a twisty circuit with five bends over 5/8th of a mile.
The track continued in various forms and throughout that time was sealed with sump oil until around the mid 1990's.

Alan Jones recalls: My farther Norman was the first to have a big crash in his ex Grand Prix 1933 Wolseley Hornet Special, Having a end over end with the car landing on top of him, in the last race of the day the butchers picnic, After a long stay in hospital, he never raced again.

1970's - WAHGUNYAH HOT ROD TRACK
The Corowa club folded in the early 1970's after three spectators were killed when a wheel came off a race car, jumped two safety fences and went into the crowd.
After a suitable time the local club did re-open the track with a different focus and reversed the direction of racing. The local Lions club became involved, as did a committee from another centre, but ultimately, it was the original club who engineered the morphing of the Hot Rod track into a regular speedway and so it was back to business for the Corowa Motor Sport Club,
