The Gulson - Coombs entry in the great race was in the form of a VC Holden Commodore, They started the race but failed to record a finish in the event.
The race distance was shortened due to a major crash and the winners of the event were Dick Johnson and John French in an XD Falcon, followed by Bob Morris and John Fitzpatric also in an XD Falcon.
Third place went to the Mazda RX7 team of Allan Moffat and Derek Bell.
