1953 - APPLE CREEK RACEWAY
Apple Creek Raceway opened in 1953 as a 1/4 mile dirt oval track on Broadway Drive, Appleton. The venue was very rugged, the dirt surface was so fine that it would turn to dust, becoming a real hazard, some nick named the track, "The Dust Bowl". Add to that the outside track fence was made from old railway lines and when hit would rip the cars to pieces.
Like most tracks of the day the Stock Car number were very strong, but over the years fell away, up until 1969 when the track closed, This being the same time the paved Outagamie Speedway opened up just down the road.
