1936 - VICTOR HARBOUR. AUSTRALIAN CENTENARY GRAND PRIX. 26th December 1936.The 9th running of the Australian Grand Prix was held on the public roads near Victor Harbour in South Australia. The race was a handicap event held over a distance of 250 miles, that being 32 laps of the 7.8 mile course.
Les Murphy Interstate winnerLes Murphy from Victoria won the race and the 200 pounds prize money after he crossed the line in his MG Sports Car.
Prior to the Grand Prix a motorcycle sidecar Tourist Trophey race was held, This race was won by R Badger from South Australia.
Also on the days program was another car race, run over 50 miles for a first prize of 50 pounds. This race was hnown as the 50 Mile Olympic Handicap.
